Abu Simbel in Egypt: This place is famous for its two temples which are known for their magnificence and their interesting relocation from the place they were originally built on. The history says that these temples were built about three millenniums ago on a sandstone cliff nearby the river Nile by a pharaoh- The Great Remesses-II. These were a dedication to the Egyptian gods and the Pharaoh. The interesting fact is that these temples were dismantled and reassembled in a new place in 1960's by the government. The great pyramids at Giza Egypt: The pyramids need no introduction as they are the symbols of Egypt. There are about 100 pyramids in this place and all were built as tombs to mummify the bodies of the pharaohs. If you move a few kilometers south of Cairo you will see the most famous of all pyramids the tomb of the pharaoh Khufu. Do not miss this one! Fish river canyon in Namibia: This is regarded as the second best river canyon in the world after The Grand Canyon of America. It is simply spectacular. This canyon features a 160kms ravine which is 27kms wide and 550meters in some places. It is a home to many animal species like the wild horse, zebra and kudu. It also has a prolific bird life with almost 60 species living here. Ngorongoro crater in Tanzania: This is the world's largest unflooded volcanic caldera. It measures about 19kms in width and 600 meters in depth from the rim to the floor of the crater. It has a floor area of about 260km square. This crater was formed 3 million years ago when the giant volcano exploded and collapsed in itself. The crater floor is now a great wildlife retreat. Okavango Delta in Botswana: This is mistakenly known as the Okavango swamp also. This is the world's largest inland delta spreading over 17000 square kilometers. It is the creation of the Okavango River which drains its waters into the plains of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana. These waters create lagoons, islands and lakes along this plain making it the largest delta. Many wild animals live here. These were few of many places that you could visit in Africa as there are many more. So, whenever you plan a trip, these places should top the list if your destination is Africa. Related Articles
